Survival School Instructors Course

No exams, no tests no unnecessary waste of money.

Learn through experience.

The instructors course is now fully booked until January 2009, if you require any more details, please contact us via our contact page.

The course was started in 2001, the first of its kind, and has already proven very successful with some outstanding results. By working through the courses and attending extra sessions you can gain the Survival School Instructors Certificate. This certificate is not easy to attain. We are looking for a blend of knowledge, experience, coaching and instructional techniques, the ability to empathise with students and above all a down to earth and friendly personality.

Pre-requisites

  • 1. 2 Day Outdoor First Aid Qualification (e.g. REC or Mountain & Outdoor), please call us for more details.
  • 2. Good level of fitness and good health. You will be required to work longer hours than participants and carry more equipment. You also need to work in rain, shine, hail, snow and sleet
  • 3. The course is designed to teach you how to teach but any previous knowledge and experience is good.
  • 4. You must hold a driver's licence with no more than 3 points
  • 5. CRB check - this can be done through Survival School for a £15 admin fee.
  • 6. You must be dedicated to Survival School and to your fellow instructors, students and bushcraft/survival.
  • If you cannot meet any of the above, please call us.

The Course

The course follows a structured program of learning and practise. The course is broken down into 4 phases:

Phase 1 is to attend one of our weekend courses to get the basics right. This also gives you a chance to look at us and us to look at you.

Phase 2 is to complete a 5 day Extreme survival or Wayfarer's course in Scotland or pass the MLTB summer assessment.

Phase 3 is to learn all the subjects taught on the weekend course and teach them.

Phase 4 is to organise and run a 2 or 5 day course for a minimum of 5 people.

You will be given in depth instruction on the subjects listed below and will also be given advice and guidance on how to set up and conduct a lesson. A big emphasis is placed on group dynamics, teaching techniques and attitude towards teaching and individuals.
