He was alive over 5,000 years ago and knew more about the skills we use in something we now call bushcraft than most will learn in a lifetime. In October 2026, Survival School will be going on another Expedition. This time we're off to Temagami in Canada on a Canoeing, Bushcraft and Wildlife Spotting Expedition. The dates are confirmed as 3rd - 10th October, in time for the magnificent autumn colours from the birch, poplar, maple and conifers. We will be on the look out for bear, moose, otters, wolves, lynx, deer, beaver, racoon, eagles and so much more . This is a wildlife spotter's paradise and you'll see so much more from your canoe than just sitting at the campsites. True exploring gives you a better experience. This is a trip of a life time. If you are doing anything else- cancel it! The airline reserves the right to change its flight schedules so early flexibility may be required. The Expedition will last for 8 days. To book this course please call us on 01453 752220 and let us know the dates and venue that you'd like. Below is an example of what you and your friend and family could be doing: After an initial brief and instructional session, the group must construct a camp, prepare a meal and administer themselves for 1 night. The test of their abilities is the last 12 hours when they have to sleep in their own shelter over night. This course is only for groups of 5 or more people. The group will be taught basic survival techniques including fire lighting, shelter construction and cooking methods, initial instruction on the safe use of cutting tools, outdoor hygiene & etiquette is provided. Due to the ever changing British weather, different materials are provided to suit the conditions. The course works by setting a number of goals and skills to be mastered. The instructors will give clear demonstrations on fire lighting, shelter construction, the collection and purification of water and cooking the food provided. After each demonstration it is up to the group to practise and perfect the technique. As always, our courses are designed to be fun, instructive and safe. All techniques will be demonstrated with safety in mind. These courses are not designed to test the physical resilience of the participants, but to increase their knowledge and experience. We tailor the courses to suit participants’ abilities and the weather.
