Applied Wilderness Skills Course – Level 3 (NCFE IIQ Accredited)
Duration: Sunday evening (camp setup) to Friday noon
Accreditation: NCFE IIQ Level 3 Certification
Course Overview
Take your bushcraft and wilderness living to the next level with our Level 3 Applied Wilderness Skills Course. This immersive five-day experience is designed to consolidate and advance your existing bushcraft knowledge — you’ll be expected to manage your own camp and apply all skills in a real wilderness setting.
This course is ideal for those who have already completed a Level 2 course and want to deepen their independence, resilience and practical wilderness competence — whether you’re preparing for remote expeditions or simply looking to live more self-sufficiently outdoors. Under expert guidance, you'll practice and refine all key bushcraft skills in a challenging, real-world environment.
What You’ll Learn & Do
- Individual Camp Management: From setting up your sleeping and cooking shelter to organising firewood, cooking areas and water supply — you’ll learn to run your camp independently.
- Advanced Firecraft: Includes intensive firelighting sessions — even in wet weather — and learning how to maintain fires in varied conditions.
- Cutting-Tool & Tool Skills: Safely use and maintain axes, saws, knives and other tools; develop proficiency in tool-based bushcraft tasks.
- Game Preparation & Wild Food: Process game (mammal, fish or fowl), prepare your own food, and practise cooking over open fire or basic kit.
- Self-Reliance: Manage water sourcing and purification, firewood collection, cooking, shelter, bedding, food — everything needed to live in the woods for multiple nights solo or semi-independently.
- Primitive & Bushcraft Projects: Engage in crafting and wilderness-living tasks aimed at increasing your competence and comfort in remote, natural environments.
Why Choose This Course
- Accredited Qualification: Earn an NCFE IIQ Level 3 certificate — proof of advanced bushcraft and wilderness-living skills under this established qualification framework.
- True Wilderness Experience: Unlike shorter or communal courses, this is a fully immersive wilderness living experience — no central fire or shared cooking: it’s down to you to manage all aspects of your stay.
- Skill Consolidation & Growth: Designed to build on previous Level 2 training, this course helps you hone and deepen bushcraft competence to a more self-sufficient standard.
- Practical, Real-World Learning: Expect hands-on tasks and real wilderness challenges that simulate living off-grid — not just demonstrations or theory.
- Small-Group but Independent: While training is guided, the course emphasises personal responsibility and independence — ideal for those serious about wilderness living.
